Tantrums are a daily occurrence at our house. With 4 kids ranging from 8 months to 13 years, they're bound to happen. Thankfully, the two year old is the only one who throws them regularly. Once Zane has his mind set on something it is often difficult to persuade him differently.
This morning, I told the kids to get in the van so we could take Avery to school when Zane started saying, "No, I stay here." I guess he's noticed that Shalyn usually gets to stay home when I run errands and in his mind he should be allowed to stay home too. He started to get mad and was insisting he was staying home. Knowing that he wasn't coming willingly, and that I'd need both hands to get him, I left him in the house while I got Cole buckled into his car seat. When I went back in the house, I found Zane hiding from me. Fortunately, he's 2 and isn't a very good hider yet. He had shut the door to the den and was hiding under the futon. I picked him up, all the while he was twisting, kicking, squirming and screaming. I got him buckled, even though he was arching his back and doing everything he could think of to get out of the car seat. As always (at least at this point) I won and off we went to school.
That was the first of what will likely be several more tantrums today.
