The Passing of a friend

I received word yesterday that a friend who I grew up with passed away. Erin and I grew up two streets away from each other. We played on several soccer teams with each other and swam competitively in the same swim league for many many years.

Erin was diagnosed with melanoma over four years ago. She fought a valiant fight, but unfortunately, the cancer spread so much that her body could no longer fight it. Erin had an infectious smile that would light the room. In my mind, she will always be the picture of youth and energy.

It has been years since I've seen or talked to her, but it always hits me really hard when a friend passes. It reminds me how fragile life really is.
