Vacation Day 9 (Saturday)

We got to sleep in this morning! Today we were going to Nassau but we weren't docking until noon. After breakfast we played cards with the Qberrys. We watched as we docked in Nassau from the Lido deck. It's amazing how they can maneuver large cruise ships with such precision into small spaces. Before getting off the ship we ate pizza for lunch.

We had a segway tour scheduled for 2:30 but we wanted to do a little sightseeing/shopping on our own first. I had found a walking tour of Nassau to do on our own. It was raining when we first got off the ship but it stopped a few minutes later.

We followed the map to Parliament square, the public library, and then to the queen's staircase. The staircase was carved by hand out of the mountain in 1793 as a thank you to Queen Victoria for granting them their freedom. After climbing the staircase we walked to Fort Fincastle and the water tower. From there we saw Gregory's Arch. After seeing the arch we got slightly off the tour and was trying to decide where to go. We looked down the street and saw a dunkin' donuts and decided to fore-go the rest of the walking tour and have a snack instead.

We did a little bit of shopping at the straw market, but then it started raining and it was getting close to the time to meet our segway tour. We found our driver, Meeks who drove us about 40 minutes to the segway location. It wasn't raining on that side of the island--yet. We got a quick lesson on how to get on and off the segways, how to start/stop and how to turn. It was really easy. We segwayed along a dirt trail along an inlet of water. We saw a huge pile a discarded conch shells. We took 2 of them to bring home for our girls. About the time we made it to the beach it started pouring. They gave us rain coats . We were supposed to have time to spend at the beach but we opted to skip it since it was raining. Before leaving, I put my feet in the water. As we were riding back to the starting point the rain picked up as did the thunder and lightening. We all made it back safely and were then transported back to the port.

We cleaned up and went to our final dinner on board. Our Didja tonight was Frog Legs. After dinner we said goodbye to Chardonut. We stopped by the gift shop and picked up a few final things for the kids. Then it was time to pack :( After packing we went to the piano bar one last time. Rob wanted to go to karaoke one more time, and sang I've got you under my skin. After that we called it a night.
