Vacation Day 5 (Tuesday) St. Thomas

This morning when we woke up we were docked in St. Thomas, USVI. After breakfast we disembarked the boat and our feet touched land for the first time since Saturday. St. Thomas is beautiful! We had a shopping/island tour/beach time arranged for today. At 10am we were driven to down town Charlotte Amalie to shop for 2 hours. Apparently St. Thomas is where a lot of people go to buy real jewelry. We shopped about 5 blocks and literally passed at least 20 jewelry stores. We bought a few things from some of the booth vendors. We only went into a few jewelry stores for their air conditioning!

At noon we boarded the Safari bus for what was supposed to be a tour of the island. All our guide talked about was all the different Hurricanes that have hit St. Thomas. We were taken to some beautiful lookout points. I wish he would have talked more about the island and history. We visited the highest point in St. Thomas called Mountain Top. From there we could see all the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Tortola and a whole bunch of other islands. At Mountain Top we bought a non-alcoholic version of their 'world famous' banana daiquiris. It was pretty good.

We were given the choice between two beaches --Magen's Bay or Cokki Beach to spend the next two hours. We chose to go to Magen's Bay--suposedly this beach is rated as one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world. It is pretty, but there are some nasty sand fleas all over the place there. We saw several fishes swimming near the shore. There were some pretty big Tarpon fish just off the shore that kept jumping out of the water. One lady saw the fin of a tarpon and started screaming that there was a shark. LOL. Rob and I swam and enjoyed the water until it was time to leave. Our driver dropped us off back at the cruise pier. I don't remember what we did the rest of the night. I know we didn't stay up super late as we had an early excursion planned for Antigua the next day.

That small strip of sand below is Magen's bay
We thought this island looked like an alligator
