Vacation-Day 2

Waiting at Port Everglades to board the ship

We woke up to pouring rain but that wasn't going to dampen our spirits. We went down to the lobby for the free breakfast. The lobby was filled with excited cruise goers. While in line for food, there was a nasty girl who was stuffing her mouth with food as she piling food onto 1 of her 3 plates. Our consensus was that she was a prostitute taking advantage of the hotel's free breakfast. She was acting like she hadn't eaten for several days.

After breakfast we loaded the van with all our luggage and set off to find the rental car return. The rental place had a shuttle to the cruise pier. There were tons of people stading around outside the building, at first we weren't sure if they were waiting for rental cars or the shuttle. We watched one shuttle drive up drop off people and then drive away empty. When the next shuttle arrived Rob asked if he was going to the port. He mumbled yeah so we climbed on.
We arrived at the port shortly after 10 and it was pretty chaotic with people from the previous cruise still coming off the ship and new cruisers arriving. We left our luggage with a porter and were directed to a VIP line. (No idea why, but we did what we were told.) From there we went through the metal detectors and x ray scanners. I was pulled aside so they could open my suitcase to make sure my soda wasn't alcohol. Once I was cleared, Rob and I went up the escalator where we got in a short line to get our sail and sign cards. We were also given Zone 3 boarding cards. We sat in the waiting area for about an hour taking advantage of the wi-fi until we were called to board.

Before we knew it we were standing in the Lobby of Deck 3!!! We headed up to the Lido deck for lunch. I got a sandwich from the deli with strawberry ice cream for dessert. When we were all finished eating we began exploring the ship. Pretty soon we were tired of carrying our carry on luggage with us. We weren't supposed to go to our staterooms until 1:30 and all the fire doors were shut, but we went through them anyways and dropped our carry ons off in our room. Our room was on the verandah deck (deck 8). After 1:30 we went back to our rooms to get settled in. The obligatory muster drill was held at 3;45. We met back up with the Qberrys for sail away. The rain was coming and going at this point, but it was supper windy and the seas were really rough. Our pilot boat and the police boat the escorted us out were getting tossed around pretty badly. (We later found out the swells were 18 feet).

We chose to have 'anytime dining' for this cruise-meaning we could go to the dining room anytime between 5:45 and 9pm for dinner. We ate pretty early most night. Rob made the mistake of ordering the fried chicken for dinner. He said it was incredibly greasy and ended up making him sick. After dinner he spent the rest of the evening in bed. Jana, Bryan and I went to the victoriana lounge for a game show. After the game show, Jana and Bryan decided to call it a night. I was still going strong so I stayed in the lounge and watched BINGO (winner won 750.00) and then watched the welcome aboard show. After that I decided to call it a night.
