My parents were in town this past weekend. On Sunday night, my older sister had everyone to her house for dinner. Around 6:30, Rob and I started getting our kids ready to leave. Cole was asleep when we had arrived earlier in the evening, so we had carried him into the house in his infant car seat. When it was time to go, we buckled him into his seat while we were still in the house. Carrying Cole in his infant seat requires some serious muscles! My sister made some comment about how heavy it must be, so I handed her the car seat and said see for yourself.
One thing lead to another and two of my sisters started swinging him in his car seat. He was grinning and giggling and loving it. A few minutes later the game evolved to where they would swing him into my brother-in-law and he would pretend to fall. Cole was laughing his head off. There's only been a few times when I've seen him laugh like that. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt" happened to Cole. After colliding with his uncle, Cole started screaming hysterically. He kept crying and crying. We decided we'd better take him to the insta-care to get his leg checked. By the time we got there, he had calmed down. Being that it was Sunday, the waiting room was pretty crowded. We sat down and waited. Meanwhile, Cole seemed to be doing much better, he even started standing and putting weight on his leg. We hadn't even registered him yet (we were still waiting our turn for that).
After talking, Rob and I decided to take him home. We went back to my sister's house and got our other kids and drove home. Cole did pretty well that night and yesterday morning he seemed to be doing okay too. He was a little clingy, but nothing too abnormal. By yesterday afternoon he wouldn't put any weight on his right leg and if he did, he'd scream. I waited for Rob to get home from work and off we went to the insta-care once again. We only had to wait about 15 minutes before he was seen. We told the Doctor what happend, so the doctor fiddled with Cole's leg until he found out exactly where it was hurting him. They took 3 x-rays of his leg. A few minutes later, the Doctor came back with the verdict...both his tibia and fibula were broken. He called it a 'buckle' break. A hard splint was put on Cole last night, and we were referred to a Sports Clinic for further care. Cole has an appointment there this afternoon. I suspect they'll put him in a hard cast for several weeks.
I feel so bad for him. I also feel bad for my sisters who are both feeling so guilty. What happened was completely an accident and I wish they wouldn't feel so bad.

Oh no!! Poor Cole... I hope it heals quickly and isn't too much of an added burden for you.
The great thing about kids is nothing slows them down! Plus he won't even remember this! BUT that isn't the same for MOMMY darn it! Hope this is the last of the drama for you for a while! YOU deserve a break from all the action at your house! Hang in there and yell if you need anything!
That's terrible!!!! Poor little guy. I hope he's able to stay off of it for a while. Good luck with that. Hopefully kids heal faster than adults. When I broke my fibula, I was in a cast for three months. That was awful.
