Zane is TWO!!!!

Two years ago today, Zane was born. I've been reflecting on my birth experience with him and thought I'd share it.

May 15, 2006--I went to my OB appointment in the morning and found out I was 4cm dilated. It was still one week before my due date, but my OB, Dr. Judd agreed to induce me the next day. After my appointment, I went and had a manicure and pedicure (I had to have at least 1 part of me looking good for the next day's events.) I spent the rest of the day cleaning and doing laundry.

It was after 1am before I was ready to go to bed. I laid in bed tossing and turning filled with excitement and anticipation. Rob got home from work a little while later and immediately fell asleep. Around 3am I gave up on sleep. I did little projects around the house to pass the time. My friend, Liz, arrived at 5:15 to stay with Avery and Shalyn. We arrived at the hospital, Orem Community shortly before 6am.

I was assigned to room 16 where I changed into a gown and answered a million questions from the nurse. My blood was drawn and an IV was started. This birth was going to be different from my two previous deliveries because I decided before I ever went in that I wanted an epidural. Since I was being induced, my doctor told me that I could have my epidural any time I wanted it. I didn't see any point in waiting until I was in pain to have my epidural, so I got one around 7:45 before I even felt a single contraction. Dr. Judd arrived around 8am and broke my water. He predicted Zane would be born around lunch time.

I spent the next few hours relaxing and trying to get some last minute sleep (to no avail). Rob slept on the fold out bed in my room. I had the perfect epidural, I couldn't feel anything, but I could move my legs. At 11:30, Zane's heartbeat dropped into the 80's. The nurse came in and said, "I think you're complete." She checked me and sure enough I was a 10. Dr. Judd was over at another hospital delivering a baby. He arrived a few minutes before noon, once everything was ready he told me push. One good push later, at exactly 12 noon Zane Robert was born. He weighed 8lbs 11oz and was 21 inches long.
