...And the dish ran away with the spoon

Today Avery graduated from Pre-school! It's amazing to look back at the last year and a half and realize how far she's come. She's been attending a special-ed, early intervention pre-school since November of '06. We have never received a firm diagnosis regarding Avery, but it was apparent that she has some type of language processing difficulties. Her teacher, Miss Nicole has nothing but praises for Avery and is always telling us how much she has progressed. Last year in school, she did horrible in group situations, she would scream, hide under the tables and display a variety of disruptive behaviors. This year she has completely turned around. She's very compliant and loves going to school. She's actually disappointed she does not qualify for the summer pre-school this year (she's progressed so far, she no longer needs special ed services)! Next year, she will be enrolled in a 'regular' kindergarten class and the speech therapist will come into her classroom once a week to evaluate how she's doing.

Today her class put on a program for the parents. The theme was nursery rhymes and Avery was so excited for us to come see her. They sang/acted out 4 nursery rhymes and each child got to play a part. Avery got to be the dish and spoon for the Hey-Diddle-Diddle nursery rhyme. After the nursery rhymes, Miss Nicole gave all the kids who are going to kindergarten next year a certificate.
