Randomness

Unless you've been living under a rock you are probably aware that last Tuesday President Obama addressed school age kids. He spoke about the importance of education and the need to set goals and work hard. (Ohhh, scary stuff, I know!) Being that we live in one of the reddest states in the nation, I wasn't surprised that our school district refused to show his address. I expressed my dismay by writing a letter to our superintendent, and by pulling both girls out of school to watch his speech. I was pleased to see that at both girl's schools there were other parents there doing the exact same thing I was. Well apparently our school district realized what a bunch of hosers they were being and have decided to air the speech after all. It will be shown district wide this Friday.

Last Friday was the 8th anniversary of one of the saddest days in our nation, 9/11. This was the first year that Avery showed any interest in what happened. She talked about it constantly the few days leading to the anniversary and the days following. I guess I watched a few too many documentaries and news stories on 9/11, as the next day I found Avery and Zane building huge towers out of their mega blocks and then knocking them down.

We had a horrible night at our house last night. Shalyn spent the weekend in California with her family out there. I was going to pick her up at the airport last night, but, Rob suggested that we all go. Zane hadn't taken a nap that day so I wasn't too surprised when he fell asleep around the time we were at point-of-the-mountain. He slept the rest of the way to the airport, and back home until about the time we hit I-15. After we got home, we got the boys ready for bed and had them down shortly after 8. Both boys fell to sleep immediately. Around 10pm, Zane woke up wide awake. His nap had done him in. He was up until 3:30 this morning. For the most part he was extremely good, the only problem was he simply wasn't tired. He got into bed with Rob and I and watched TV for a while. Then he moved into the den and watched Finding Nemo. I dozed off and on during the point. He came back into our room at 2:30 and tossed and turned until he finally fell asleep at 3:30. Unfortunately, our littlest rooster, Cole was up at 5:30 for the day. Needless to say, the little boys and I took great naps this afternoon.
