New Years Traditions

One of our kid's favorite traditions happened last night. Every year for New Years Eve we have fondue. I make a cheese fondue for dinner and a chocolate fondue for dessert. This year we had pugliese bread from Costco (our favorite) and carrots and Granny Smith apples to dip in the cheese. For the chocolate fondue, we dipped bananas, marshmallows, pretzels, rice crispy treats, and cream puffs. By the time we were done, we were all seriously stuffed.

Rob and I were mean parents and didn't let the little ones stay up, all were in bed by 8. Shalyn went to a New Years Eve dance hosted by our church. She had a good time.

This morning when the kids woke up, they saw that 'Baby New Year' had made his annual visit to our house. This year the kids were brought 4 DVDs, My Sister's Keeper, Up, Snow White, and the Bernstein Bears. I don't know if I've ever explained the Baby NY Tradition, but it stems from my dad's family when he was growing up. They had 5 kids and not a lot of money. They would have a very small Christmas, and then my Grandparents would hit the after Christmas sales and buy presents for the kids. Baby New Year would come on NYE and leave them all the presents. It's a tradition we've continued but on a much smalled scale.
