Fort Walton Beach, FL

We got up early on the morning of July 9th, ate a quick breakfast and then got everyone ready and loaded in the van. We left Aiken South Carolina by 6am heading for Fort Walton Beach, FL. FWB is located in the Florida panhandle not far from the city of Destin. We drove East to Atlanta, and then turned south east towards Montgomery Alabama. Once we past Montgomery we were on two lane county roads for the rest of the drive. The drive through Alabama was beautiful.

We arrived in FL in the mid-afternoon and checked into our hotel. Our hotel was nasty. In the first room they gave us, the lights in the vanity and bathroom didn't work. Rob found a circuit breaker that was popped so he pushed it back it. The lights came on, but the smoke detector started going off. Rob went back to the office and they gave us another room. The second room was just a filthy. We changed into our swim suits and headed a few blocks to the beach. I had been to FWB about 10 years earlier when I was a flight attendant and I remembered how much I loved my layovers in FWB and how gorgeous the beach was. When we were planning our road trip, that was one of my 'must stops' on the trip. The beach was exactly as I had remembered, gorgeous white sand. We had so much fun playing in the water and in the sand. Zane even ventured into the water! Shalyn looked for more shells and found some small ones as well as a beaded bracelet and a matchbox car. We got a treat, there was a pod of dolphins swimming about 50 yards out in the ocean. We watched them swimming towards the pier.

After spending several hours at the beach we left in search for dinner. We found a Little Caesars and were going to go to the park to eat it. Zane was so cute, in the car he asked, "Mom, is Nana going to meet us at the park?" "Where's Uncle J?" Our kids really became attached to their SC family. We ended up taking the pizza back to the hotel to eat because it had started to rain. When it was bed time, we turned down the bed and found nasty used sheets on the bed. Rob again, went to the desk and asked for two sets of clean sheets.
